Button grass

Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, Illawarra, New South Wales

Button grass

The heath is quiet. Even the wrens, common in the clumps of shrubs, have stopped calling. At last the breeze subsides and I can get to work, serenaded by complete silence. Further down the track a rocky outcrop, perched on the very edge of the Illawarra escarpment, gives great views of the countryside and coastline around Kiama — tomorrow maybe.
