I have a long and varied photography background. It includes a while at Salisbury College of Art (UK) — from where I dropped out and emigrated — many years working in a university photography department and a few more working for a Wedding / Portrait studio. I then moved to full-time study and completed a degree with Earth Science and Geography leanings and ended up working here in the nation’s capital. These days, when I get the time between work, children, house and garden, I just follow my own photographic directions: those should be obvious to those who peruse my images.
I like to understand what I photograph: I think just pointing a lens at all and sundry can get meaningless. I need to get a sense of how the natural world hangs together and how the subject in my lens fits in to it all. Most of all, I strive to capture simple but strong images that achieve in shades and hues of light and form, what a line of poetry can do in words. I leave it to you to decide for yourself if I sometimes succeed……
